Anthea Turner has certainly earned her ‘National Treasure’ status throughout a diverse and busy 35 year career. The much loved TV Presenter has been in the media spotlight for nearly four decades presenting some of our favourite shows including GMTV, Blue Peter, The National Lottery and Perfect Housewife. Anthea went on to shine more recently as a gritty contributor to Ch 4’s Celebrity SAS and continued to prove that age is just a number with her vibrant role in the E4’s series The Real Life Dirty Dancing. She cemented her legendary status by being honoured to receive the prestigious invitation to be a part of the late Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Procession.
Enjoying a new phase of her media career in her 60’s, Anthea is as busy as ever having just launched her own skin care range ‘By Anthea Turner’ featuring handmade, natural, ‘must have’ products. ‘Balm 6’ and ‘Body 3’ were created by her to fill the gap in the market for simple, hydrating, sumptuous skin products.
In addition to writing her ‘life hacks’, column for My Weekly Magazine, now in its third year, she has recently launched her latest book, co-written with her sister Wendy ‘The Kohinoor Diamond’ – one of a series of Children’s books about the adventures of a medley of mice living in the London Underground. This follows in the footsteps of her bestselling beauty book, ‘How To Age Well: The Secrets’, which reveals, not just her ageing secrets, but those of many trusted experts and friends within the industry.
The presenter hosted the Sunday breakfast show on Scala radio for a year bringing classical music to the masses and enjoyed being the face of current affairs series Hot Topics for London Live. Anthea is a regular on TV shows such as Lorraine, Jeremy Vine, and This Morning and recently took part in the much loved Celebrity Auction House and Celebrity Antiques Hunt for the BBC. But it was her role on Celebrity SAS that really showed us her metal and proved that in her 60’s Anthea definitely has no plans to slow down! Dancing her way into the DM’s of instagram’s finest influencers, Anthea welcomed a new audience when she wowed viewers with her attitude to life in E4’s ‘Real Life Dirty Dancing’. Partnered with Towie’s James Argent, they made the final and showed us that ‘nobody puts Anthea in the corner!’
As the voice of Hoover and National Vehicle Contracts and the face of Sarah Haran handbags, Anthea continues to work with fantastic brands such as Netflix, Disney Pixar, Totally Money, B Cure, PoundLand, Naturo, Mountain Warehouse, Warranty Wise, A Vogel, Puressentials and remains a poster girl for women enjoying their ‘Second Spring’.
Anthea re-launched Channel 5’s popular Health Lottery, has enjoyed taking part in a variety of programming for Channel 4’s incredible Stand Up 2 Cancer campaign, has written for The Telegraph on a number of modern-day issues, and published ‘How To Survive Divorce’ in 2018, which aims to inspire, motivate and help those going through relationship breakups.
Having Presented the highly acclaimed BBC series Perfect Housewife and published a book to accompany the series Anthea went on to publish ‘How to Entertain in Style’ and ‘Perfect Christmas’ helping to establish her as the ultimate domestic goddess. The broadcaster has presented shows on a variety of subjects close to her heart from creating the perfect home to food, pets, travel and fitness. She lives in London with her partner Mark and French Bulldog Soho, the other love of her life!
Her career in television began as a Video Jock on Sky in 1986 following a stint in local radio alongside Bruno Brookes. She then progressed on to Saturday morning television with UP2U, Live from BBC Manchester, Top Of The Pops, Anything Goes and a whole host of other appearances, until in 1992 Anthea become the 19th presenter of the award-winning BBC1 flagship children’s programme, ‘Blue Peter’.
During her two years with the show, she launched the most successful ‘homemade make’ in the history of ‘Blue Peter’ with an excess of 100,000 viewers writing in for details of how to make ‘Tracy Island’ from Thunderbirds.
In 1994 Anthea joined the network broadcaster GMTV where she anchored the 7.00am-9.00am time slot 5 days a week where she reigned as Queen of the Sofa for nearly 3 years.
During 1994 to 1996 Anthea was the inaugural presenter of BBC1’s ‘National Lottery Live’ programme, which quickly became the BBC’s highest-rated entertainment programme.
Anthea has also successfully presented a selection of videos around fitness. Her ‘Y Plan Fitness’, video sold in excess of one million units, leading to further successful releases including ‘Body Basics’ and ‘Tone, Lift & Condition’. At 60 she likes to keep in shape using the Alexander Technique, something she learned during her ballet classes as a teenager and has never forgotten.
